Please help save Alanna!

Update:

Alanna had a meet and greet on Tuesday and found her forever home! Although I was VERY happy for her, I cried myself all the way home. I love and miss her so much!!

BUT, I’m VERY happy that she’s going to a GOOD home because she was very deserving of a 2nd chance. It was very difficult to say goodbye and leave her, but my very dear and good friend Deanna gave me words of comfort when she said…Alanna is finally HOME. ….and what a wonderful home she has!!! Please see the update below from the wonderful couple who adopted her and are now giving her lots of love and comfort and allowing her to live out the rest of her life as she so truly deserved! .

Thanks everyone for your efforts!

We are sincerely grateful.

Alanna's new "mom" writes:

Just wanted to update you on our new four-legged family member: Alanna is doing GREAT!

The first night she slept on TOP of me in bed and I just laughed all night. The next morning we were off to Ely and she did the drive very well. Here at home we've walked and walked and walked, met neighborhood dogs and spent some time just cuddling at home. We want to make sure she feels comfortable and understands that this is "her" home now too.

She never lets us out of her sight, ever. And I think she is trying to figure out which one of us adults she's supposed to stick to, me or Tyler. She's really a great girl and we feel lucky to have her. Oh, and NO pee accidents at all. I saw her do a submissive pee once with Tyler outside tonight but that's the first time.

She seems to nibble on food a little at a time verses gobbling everything all at once. I've added meaty things or yogurt and then she makes it disappear. (adjusting to new food since we don't have NutroMax here).

Treats, on the other hand, no problem! Our little two-year old gives her treats and she's very gentle with him. She loves playing and throws her toys up into the air like a wild woman! And then a second later is as calm as ever, like she has an on/off button. Well, that's our update. We love her, thank you!!

Please help find Alanna a home!!

If you know someone who might be interested in an awesome pet PLEASE let me know in the comments and pass this link on:

She is the sweetest and most lovable dog!

She also very playful and plays so gently with me and my dogs, and gives everyone kisses, including my dogs. She’s so affectionate and loves to cuddle. I can't even begin to explain how cute and sweet she is, so if you know anyone who might be interested, please pass this email on. She also listens very well, and even barks less then my dogs.

Alanna is GREAT with dogs and kids

Not sure about cats. SO if you know anyone, or have any questions please leave a comment here to help her find a safe and loving home….and a second chance for her!

She’s a German Sheppard/Husky mix, about 1 – 2 years old, and sheds A LOT like my dog Angel (who also is a Sheppard Husky mix)….but they’re worth every hair!

Alanna is a rescue dog from MARS (Midwest Animal Rescue)

She is named after one of the women who rescued her. She’s from Ohio (a high kill state) and was picked up as a stray with her friend Lynn, and schedule to be euthanized because nobody claimed them. Please help give them a second chance. Her friend Lynn is also in a foster care now, and we plan on having play dates for them.

In this photo she’s playing with Zukor, and later fell asleep next to Angles feet. She’s even cuter in person :)

She is a dog that I’m fostering and I can tell you if I didn’t already have 2 BIG dogs I would keep her myself. I’m not just saying that. I wouldn't do that because I want her to go to a home that will be a good fit

Thanks everyone!!

  1. Make her more attractive to potential adopters: Shots, spayed, housebroken, crate, leash, food included?
Best wishes, she looks sweet as can be!

  4. Thank you so much for your interest & advice. Alanna is not spayed yet, but does have her shots, is de-wormed, and ticks and fleas removed. Poor thing. However, she does have Heartworm and will be treated for that next week. It’s 2 painful shots, 24 hours apart, and she can NOT be active for 4-6weeks afterwards. Getting overly excited or playing could cause the dead worms to lodge into her lungs and kill her. It’s pretty serious. So MARS is trying to find another temporary "pet less" home until she can recover. So if anyone is interested in fostering her temporally (aprx 4-6 weeks), and have no other dogs, please let myself or MARS know. MARS does pays pay all the vet bills. If Alanna was taken to the Humans Society most likely they would have euthanized her because Heartworm is so expensive to treat….but thank God for MARS! They have saved a very sweet and loving pet that surely deserved a second chance. So please if anyone is interested in adopting her, or “temporally” fostering her, let us know. Thanks again for your interest in helping Alanna.
Note: I do have a leash you can keep, but the Kennel I would need back.
Re Spaying:She does still need to be spayed. MARS will cover that in the adoption fee. If she is adopted before she gets spayed then they just need to make a appointment with MARS to bring her back and have them spay her :c)

  7. She is houe broken, but is submissive so if she is excited to see you, or scared she will pee a little. But she's still young. One of my dogs use to do that and eventually stopped. The thing is to never yell at them. They are doing what they are suppose to do in the wild, so getting upset at them will only confuse them and make them pee quicker. Because then they will think you are upset because they didnt submit fast enought. As far as fostering her, MARS pays the vet bill. They will also supply the food if you ask. However, they are a non-profit org., so the more you can do to help the cause, the better. For me, I pay for the food and treats for Alanna, but MARS will assist you with that if you need. But of course this will not apply if adopted. Thanks again for your questions and interest in Alanna!

  8. Alanna had her first painful shot today, and her other one tomorrow. Because she can not play with for the next 4 weeks she needs to either stay in a kennel in my home, or go to a home for 4 weeks (only) wihtout pets until she recovers. It breaks my heart to have to kennel her during this time, so please if anyone can just take her temp for 4 weeks it would be for a great cause. MARS will pay her vet bills, but I will take her to her appointments, and give you the food and kennel to use until I can take her back. She is very sweet and loves to cuddle and will be a great freind for the next 4 weeks. If anyone can help please let me know. I just hate to have to keep her in a kennel, but its a life or death situation for her, so i would prefer her to at least just go to quiet home temp. Thanks so much!
